Right now I'm Listening to Bruce Springsteen's Live/1975-85 and thinking about how amazing the Boss was live. I'm sure he still is cool, but to see him in the 70's would have been unreal.
This morning I've been going through my iTunes library and weeding it out. Getting rid of songs and albums I don't own or like very much anymore. I like to keep it organized. In any case I came across something that got me all worked up, and made me want to write a ranting journal entry. This is something i've done in the past, basically because I love music and feel passionately about it.
See Napoleon Dynamite Sucks and Bright Eyes Sucks
anyways, I'm pretty sure I'll step on a couple toes somewhere with this, but It needs to be said.
Dave Matthews sucks. A Lot. This is something that's been on my mind for a while now, but hard for me to put into words, because we have a bit of a history.
When I was 17 I was just starting to come into my own as far as my music tastes went. I lived in a small town where people's music tastes went really no further than Country (for the old people and rednecks) and Much Music (for the kids who thought letting the Nation's Music Station tell them what to listen to was original). I had a couple friends who were also discovering music other than the mainstream, and we influenced each other to varying degrees. One day my buddy put on DMB's Crash, and it was unlike anything I'd heard before in my young musical existence. I found it inspiring enough to go see Dave Matthews in Winnipeg on the first and only time they ever played this city. It's hard to remember 1998 without a DMB song going along with it.
There's a lot of people out there who swear the first 2 Dave Matthews albums are their best. That's true. They are still unbelievably boring. This has been impressed upon me so heavily over the past 2 years working in a Resaurant with frat-boy bartenders content to listen to these records over and over again. Listening to inane lyrics over and over again....
"Hike up your skirt a little more, Show your world to Me"
"I've got this growl in my tummy and I'm gonna stop it today. I eat too much, I drink too much, I want too much, Too much"
"Kiss me won't you kiss me now, And sleep I would inside your mouth"
"When we make, Our passion pictures, You and me twist up, Secret creatures, And we'll stay here, Tomorrow go back to being friends"
"I was feelin like a creep, As I watched you asleep, Face down in the grass, in the park, in the middle, of a hot afternoon, Your top was untied, And I thought how nice, Itd be to follow the sweat down your spine"
Ready to throw up yet? Anyways, I saw all those DMB albums still lurking in my iTunes, and knew what i had to do. They now reside in my Recycle Bin, never to be Recycled again.
