Thought I was something fierce

22. I always feel like something should have changed, or should be life defining on birthdays. You always get so exciting when you're young and then...as you get older, it just becomes another day...the magical words "but it's my birthday!" no longer excuse you from doing the washing up, tidying your room or going to work or class...this is the third year in a row that i have been away from my family on my birthday and i do miss running into my parents room and being made a fuss of for a couple of hours...it's the first year where i have woken up in a house where i havent immediately been jumped on by my best friends, and the first time i know that i wont see the people that mean everything to me today, just to hang out and eat a picnic in the park, or go to a show, or just to sit and watch a film together. Nevermind...
This weekend was another road trip. The weather was terrible and we started out late which meant i had to figure out how to work lights and windscreen wipers as well as the wrong sided gear stick. I'll post the photos never fear but it has been quite an eventful weekend so it needs some explaination. Me and rach picked up the toy car from the bus station [it had only a fuel gauge and a speedometer, no clock, no rev metre, no engine temperature...and it's top speed was 137.5 mph] , and managed to find our way (with a few pre-emptory river crossings) to the university to pick up jordan...who had bought a little wheely suitcase of which the wheels had promptly fallen off...we then realised that the toy car we had been given had almost no boot, we fit jordans tiny suitcase in it and mine and rach's backpacks...all the rest of the stuff had to go in the back of the car with jordan..so we set off to find sam (he lives in a village about 2 hours from me, halfway to cartagena which is where we were going) and realised as soon as we got there that Petrer was flooded. We drove super carefully through small lakes and parked on the road next to sam's house, which was actually a river...picked up sam and off we went. 10 minutes later whilst trying to avoid a car coming towards me at speeds i didnt think were possible in 3 inches of water i managed to crash our toy car into a parked car that was sticking out into the road. We pulled over, i waded back to pick up the side skirting that we pulled off and we decided superglue was the way to go...back on the road, the drive was fairly uneventful, the car was actually shite (never rent a kia picanto) and with four of us in going up a hill i could only do 60 km/h which meant we were getting overtaken by very amused lorry drivers...we had a minor glitch when we ended up IN cartagena instead of taking the road bypassing it, but eventually found our way out (after only circling the town once, quite a feat for us!) onto the right road where i proceeded to almost kill a motorcyclist and then firmly insisted that i had been driving for almost four hours without a break and needed some food. we eventually (at 11pm) got to the campsite ( we set off at 5pm...) had a few arguments (sam is a backseat driver, though he cant actually drive...this gets to me when i am tired...cue :"Just reverse jenn, it's back there" "I am not fucking reversing, if you want to go backwards that much push the bloody thing yourself" [ i was too tired to concentrate being the only driver]) and finally got into bed..
The campsite was really nice ( its a nudist camp) and had its own beach which we went on on saturday...teeny tiny beach, mad waves!it was set into a cove between two mountains and did literally look like a paradise, we found out that to go in the swimming pool you HAD to be naked, so we went naked swimming which was fun, liberating as sam put it, generally hung out, got some superglue to stick the car back together [believe me, it worked] and had chinese for dinner, making agua de valencia for pudding (it's a cocktail...never EVER again...) we then got absolutely wankered (i'm not kidding) decided that we needed to go to the beach at 4am, almost got washed out to sea by a giant wave and then everything is pretty much a blur, bar the fact that i thought i lost my glasses so at 5:30 am i was looking for them...in the fridge...
I drove back the next day with the worst hangover i have ever had....we stopped numerous times so either me or rach could vomit....at one point we almost ran out of petrol and got saved by a really lovely german lady..i nearly killed sam for trying to tell me how to drive and we eventually made it home to valencia where i still havent had enough sleep and feel like death warmed up...
