I feel like i should have something exciting and important to say but there isnt all that much...i have my essay all done and dusted finally, it's on brazilian cinema and is about the violence in Black God, White Devil (Glauber Rocha 1964) and City of God (Fernando Meirelles 2002)...i found Black God, White Devil sort of boring, its part of the Cinema Novo movement which made films that were sort of like feature length documentaries with less speech and more slow panning of countryside...i mean i KNOW there was more to it than that...but i just didnt get on with that film much..City of God however is an AMAZING film, you should watch it if you havent...its mind-numbing because almost all of the actors are from the slums of brazil, they have no formal training, they just attended workshops on improvisation, a lot of the speech is their own words...and it is such a strong political statement about how bad things got, about how people were using violence as a form of expression because they had no other voice with which to be heard, and what happens when a government builds housing on the outskirts of a city for the poor, the illiterate and the undesirables...then promptly tries to pretend they dont exist...really, the reading for that and the writing of that part of my paper were so interesting, as you can probably tell
other than that...everyone (including me i might add) seems to be having some sort of boy trouble recently...mine is just...confusing...honest opinion, if a guy who professes to be in love with you then stops talking to you for...well...about a month (he lives in the usa im here he tours with a band...blah blah blah)...you think somethings wrong right? or that it might be over, especially when sources tell you he may have been seeing some other girl in canada...so when i email him saying if its over then he just has to let me know why do i get angry responses saying "i thought you were someone that could understand that i'm busy if not, fine!" but he doesnt reply when you send normal messages...then he tries to call three times but i didnt answer cus my phone was on silent...so i called him back and then he doesnt pick up? three times cant have been a wrong person call....so i try to talk to him on AIM...and he doesnt respond....i think i might have three heads or something else that is repulsing him...god knows...but i jsut dont get what he wants or doesnt want from me!boys...what does this behaviour mean? i thought it was over...but why cant he just SAY that if thats what he wants?!
and finally...im going to new york for a day...then to utah for a wedding...IN A WEEK! im so excited...what should i do in NYC for a day and is anyone around that would like to come meet a poor alone english traveller (that isnt going to be scary

I'm doing fine with the rest of the work, thanks. I had a sixteen hour rest that was much needed - meaning that I have to work tonight, even though the snow is gone, and I can actually go somewhere...
Somehow I can be very productive during weekends. Maybe it's because I don't necessarily have to work - It would be accepted if I decided to spend a couple of nights out, but if I choose to work instead, the time is my own in another way than it is during the week.
I really envy you, that you are going to the States. Have you been there before? I haven't yet, but intend to go, maybe in 2009 - the big Poe year.

Things are good here! Toady was fucking BEAUTIFUL!!!! I woke up and there was blue skies, birds, and sunshine. I know that sounds so corny but it made for a good day. We had a staff party tonight so I got free food and beer which is always excellent. Oh I have to take math bc I go to a liberal arts college rather than an art college so i have to take a couple classes in everything. It is kind of awesome bc i got a taste of everything from economics to philosophy but sucks when you know what you want to do. I feel like im wasting time. I wish I was good at math but it English and History were always my strong subjects. Math and I never got along.
Good luck on finding a photographer, your're gorgeous so i'm sure you'll find someone soon. also good luck on the set! keep me posted with what happens. I def want to check it out.
Have fun while you are in the states. Yeah the MOMA is worth it if you have the time but regardless i'm sure you'll have fun.
