I'm currently directing my local pantomime. Now for those of you living outside Britain, a pantomime is a show that takes place around Christmas and early New Year in Britain (they've never caught on elsewhere). Usually based around a traditional fairy tale, they then have layers of extra business added - there's a Dame (a man in drag, usually fairly grotesque but very funny), a Principal Boy (a leggy girl dressed as a boy - less often these days). There's song and dance numbers, there's jokes and slapstick and loads of audience participation. It's a curious beast, but hugely popular, with kids and adults alike. So anyway I'm directing it, have co-written it and have also been having to build the set - such is the way of amateur theatre! Pretty tired at the moment, as a result.
