got out of the city yesterday and into a nearby forest. walking along the path which led through an open prairie i found a dead armidillo. i stopped, crouched down and looked to see how it died. there were no telling signs, no big holes in the armor. i grabbed a stick and flipped its body over. light as cardbored, completely dessicated with the skin and claws still intact. little black shiny bugs, like minature beetles, swarmed out of the inner carcas. i turned him back over and took in another nice look at the scaly armor, then walked away.
later, i passed on this description to a couple people i know and drink with. the girls eyes grew wide and she said: "you know armadiilos are carriers of leprosy".
i explained, no i didnt know that. how contagious are they?
"from what i understand, they are pretty fucking contagious".
she is a librarian, with a librarian degree. so, she has the credentials, eh.
luckily i didnt touch, but i did sniff. just a an inch above the body.
i always knew id succumb to a tragic and early death. recently i thought that meant being trapped in suburbia and unemployed. now i can relax. maybe im headed to the tropics, to a leper colony.

i'm not sure if the full night of sleep thing breaks down into region for me. when i left the UK, i was 13. I do know that i've had this problem since i was in jr high school here in the states. most nights i'm lucky if i can get an hour, sometimes two.

Well, the thread you started with the link to my pictures was closed by the time I saw it but for what it's worth I wasn't offended...rather amused actually. However, most people are more sensitive to a harmless jab now and then than I am so I understand why people criticized it. Sometimes a light jest and a mean spirited insult can be hard to tell apart...especially in written words.
