Funny. Because what I liked about The Mummy was the costuming, sets, and scenery I liked Returns even more due to the fact that these things were still more elaborate.

Sorry about your dad. My dad was laid off (actually fired, but they called it laid off) when I was 7. I don't remember it very well, only how frightening it was to see my dad in a position like that.
