May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! I've been struggling to find the right things to say in this blog especially in light of the recent hate crimes to AAPI individuals. The last year-ish has been tough not only because of the pandemic itself but because of the additional hate that spread (like COVID being called the China Virus) and people blaming Asians everywhere for the virus.
The hate crimes in March (in particular the mass shooting in Georgia) left me feeling extremely vulnerable and a ton of old memories kicked back to the forefront. One thing that really hit me was the ages of a lot of the victims were around the age my mom would have been and it's terrifying. There's definitely still a lot more that I'm keeping to myself but I know that verbalizing my fears might help others.
I will not be embarrassed by who I am or where I came from anymore and thought things are still crazy across the US, I have faith that things will improve even if it still takes years. When I was younger, it absolutely was something I wished I could change but I am who I am and if people don't like that I'm Korean, then they can kick rocks!
All that being said: I want to take a moment to share some a-MAZ-ing fellow Asian models on the site. Show them tons of love and share with me your favorite Asian models on SG, too (like beautiful @chroi or fantastic @addox)!
