Hey everyone! We are official part of 2021!! Congratulations on making it past Jumunji level 2020. Let’s all make this year incredible.
I wanted to start off by sharing some images that my BFF took of me while I was in Texas in November. She found a Korean Pavilion near her house (the Gwangju Pavilion, a gift from South Korea to the people of San Antonio that is pretty similar in design to its “sister”, Democracy Bell, in Gwangju, South Korea) and I decided I wanted to take pictures there as a gift for my dad and brother for Christmas.
I found a non-traditional Hanbok (the dress you’ll see), since a true traditional one takes a lot of work to create and I’d have to custom order it to fit me correctly, and off we went. I’ve never owned a Hanbok before but I’d seen picture of my mom in a ton of different styles and designs. I wanted to be able to capture her spirit in these pictures to share my attempt at experiencing what I previously lost with my family (mom died when I was little so I didn’t have the have experiences my brother or dad had with her or the country).
Here are two that she edited for me. ⬆️
and here are two that I edited myself. ⬆️
This leads me to my goals for 2021: I just want to learn more Korean and practice cooking more Korean meals. I want to continue to support small businesses and spend less at huge retailers. I want to spend more time sending letters/postcards to friends and family (none of us do this enough and I know I, for one, loooove getting snail mail). I want to continue to practice shooting...doesn’t matter if it’s people, places, or things; I just want to spend more time with my camera in my hand. The biggest one of all: I want to take care of ME. Life is hard. I’ve let it get to me too much and I want to change that.
Fingers crossed for some things I’d like in 2021: For a positive outcome on something house related (I’ll leave it at that for the time being). For my first set to be purchased as a photographer. For another SOTD for myself. To be in a place where I’m able to purchase a mature fruit bearing tree (like 4-5 year old range) AND find the right place to plant it in my yard.
Also, a reminder to all my fellow BIPOC: I see you. I hear you. I love you. You are all worthy. You are all beautiful. You matter.
Let’s all spend more of this year supporting one another, calling people out when they’re being shit, and respecting those around you.
And some shameless promotion for past sets. Two of my self shot sets: Clarity (my favorite) at 1933💛 and A Morning in Maryland at 2111🖤. My Ravenclaw cosplay set by @leemalee If You’ve a Ready Mind at 1940💙. My set of the beautiful @ivee Stairway to Heaven at 2803💚.
Anywho, love you guys!! Tell me your goals in the comments!!
