Ah, what to write. Let's see. Went out to Distortion Days at Bedlam Theater on Saturday. Been a while since I seen a genuine punk rock show, at least one without teeny-boppers, that is. Saw a couple of interesting bands. There weren't too many people on the floor, but they still had an active pit.
A few weeks ago I got to see Mos Def at First Ave. Great show! I love Mos's eclectic style. He really has a style all his own, both musically and in his presence. It's always fun to see artists throwing really different ideas into the mix. What hip-hop artist sings while playing timpany? Very cool!
I'm hoping to see Atmosphere, though I'm not sure if I can afford it. Ani DiFranco's coming Sept. 20 so I've already got tix to see her. Haven't seen her in years! She's at First Ave this time; last time I saw her was in a larger theater, so it will be fun to see her in a smaller setting.
Speaking of music, I'm finally getting back into playing, albeit gradually. Picked up an acoustic, which I'd been missing since my other one went bad a couple years ago. I've got my Roland XP-60 and my drum machine hooked up to the computer, and using Sony ACID to record. Now to find some good open mic nights! Anybody know of any in the Twin Cities? I've found a couple through Google, but sometimes word-of-mouth is still better.
There's also a couple new groups playing on my computer lately, Ak1200 being one. It's sort of electro, but also reminds of a toned-down Diesel Boy, in a way. Either way, it's awesome!
