Had the privilege of watching a dress rehearsal for the Ballet Nacional de Cuba's production of Don Quixote, which opened at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in DTLA this evening.
It's the first time the company has performed in the US since their 2003 tour when five members defected.
It's very telling 8 years on, that on this tour no dancer has defected to the US. However five company members did choose to stay in Canada after the company did a run of shows in Toronto earlier this year.
You know our economy is fucked when Cuban ballet dancers are choosing to defect to Canada over America.
