I think the most important things are a) do it for the right reasons b) don't try to force a relationship style onto yourselves... find what works for you, even if it doesn't look like a "standard" relationship arrangement. blaze trails based on self awareness and good intentions c) always put your partner FIRST d) nothing's ever perfect, so don't expect it to be.
Finally, if you haven't already, join the swingers and poly groups. Have been great sources of info for me, and they've been pretty good about politely answering my stupid questions.
