Ok. I was at a protest in North Haven yesterday for women workers rights. Heres the story:
Recxently at the Out Back Steak House in North Haven the head cook had repeatedly sexually harassed some of the female staff both verbally and physically. These female workers MAY or MAY NOT be undocumented illegal workers. (I do not have the full story) When these women called the Head Office/Worker Complaint number they were basically told "heres the door, go find another job." aka: We dont care, so get out if you do not like it.
SO these women called a local Latino help group and this group puts on a demonstration. It was supposed to have some guerrilla theater inside the restuarant, but the Green Hats (free lawyers and legal observers) advised against that. Instead we all held signs next to the restuarant chanting. it was an awesome scene.
We had to move off the property, however, and ended up on the sidewalk of the busy route 4/10/something like that. Had lots of people pulling over for information, honking, etc.
After we were done, we marched up the parking lot singing a song, and some people went INSIDE the steak house. (a bad idea, but mob mentality hits ya) So the woman incharge went to the manager to say "we will be back sunday" and other went in with their signs singing and chanting.
As we were all leaving, the police showed up and all our cars were boxed in. We were ID'ed, and all nervous of being arrested. WHICH i personally have no problem with, let them fill up the cells with nonsense.
So, demonstrations are still on. This organization wants Outback to set a date to talk about the issue, and Outback is being sketchy about setting it.
SO i felt wicked cool that I was willing to get arrested for this. Fill the cells with us, we were just going to sing in there anyway. Epic. Besides, I have never been arrested before, and this seemed like a worthy enough reason to be. This is why I need my own TV show. I love being me.
