Ugh.
I'm irritable.
At what point is it okay to go to the bar alone?
Unlike a coffeeshop, where you can pretend to read a book, you only have the option of looking miserably lonely, whether that be the case, or not, OR staring at other people, which is sometimes perceived as creepy.
Bah.
Why go out at all? It's not really for the alcohol... you can drink that at home, alone.
It's to see and be seen, right? To validate your social capabilities. To reinforce the idea that people like you. But to audibly voice that intention is "uncool" and the correct response is to sit at the bar, either tearing the label off of your beer or staring at people, creepily.
Which is "uncool", as well?
Does that qualify as the "cool to be uncool" trend?
Maybe if I wore a trucker hat, wristbands and a scowl...

I like going to small neighborhood bars by myself. Lately, I've been hanging out at Bakus on 9th but its also a good place to watch people and the drinks are big and the food good... People are generally friendly in the small bars and you can have some very interesting conversations if you are willing to speak to strangers.
