My best friend is moving away, so I'm melancholy today. He is selling all his things and travelling/working in europe indefinately. Just sold his car, which ws the last thing holding him down. He is lighter than air now, and will blow away if there is the slightest breeze.
A laid off tech worker, he can't find a job here so has decided to stop paying rent, and start living it up as eurotrash. I totally understand, I did the same thing during a recession in the '90s. Drifted around in eastern europe (mostly prague) for years, till I met my wife-to-be.
So anyway, I'm a little sad today. But i'm happy 'cause I know it'll expand his mind a lot. There is nothing like open-ended travel to liberate a person from the chains that bind them. Its like you slough off old roles and personas and get strpped down to some core version of yourself.
