So, I've never been big on Valentine's Day. Seems kind of silly to go out for dinner on one of the busiest nights of the year, especially when we both love to cook. And I've never been the materialistic type, so I don't require flowers or other such tokens of affection. People at the office kept asking me what I was doing for VDay, and being surprised when I said "nothing." I did send Ben a funny card, and wear my pink "Je t'aime" t-shirt under a black cardigan, but that was it.
When I got home last night, I was met with a house full of heart-shaped Post-Its. They were everywhere - mirrors, bookshelves, walls, windows. They started at the front door and spread throughout the house. Each one had a phrase cut out and taped onto it, things that Ben had culled from nearly five years of our chats and e-mails. Some were touching, some made me laugh until my stomach hurt. (One of my favorites: "I'm all I-want-to-get-married now. Tell anyone and I'll kill you." Yes, I wrote that.) It's amazing, the shared language that comes with loving someone; I doubt that some of these would be at all comprehensible to anyone but us. Words are more precious than almost anything, to me - this meant more than any restaurant dinner, flowers, or jewelry ever could.
Seriously? This is one of the coolest things anyone has done for me, ever. My husband is fantastically amazing.

the post-it note explosion sounds so awesome... very cool.
You're not making up the librarian thing, although I'm a rather strange variant of one. I work for a non-profit called the American Theological Library Association. We're not a library in the traditional sense (we're not open to the public, don't have a collection). We do two main things, one is to be a membership association for theological librarians, which is primarily librarians at divinity schools, seminaries, etc. We have a conference and a newsletter and all that. I work on the other part, which is the product part. We create an index to essay and periodical literature in religious studies and theology. I do most of the collection development, title evaluation, and more often now, licensing for digitization. It's a very cool group of people to work with.
I won't be at the Brain--I have my kids--but I do think I'll be hitting Thanise's wine tasting on Tuesday, and I saw you might be too. It would a pleasure actually to meet!
