Well, rent was made... but I had to sell my laptop to do it
It was the computer Delores bought me when my netbook died, and I wasn't thrilled with the thought of being without a computer. On top of all of this, the Wagon is beginning to lose power and vibrate more and more severely. I am pretty sure it's a combination of a bad catalytic converter and the series of bad sensors fried because of the lack of backpressure in the system. It's been one hit after another, but there was a bit of a surprise today:
My future mother-in-law said she had gained an "extra" computer from some family during a trip to Chicago. She wasn't clear on what kind of laptop it was, only that it was gained by some strange internet scheme that her brother had got involved with and ended up getting nearly burned, and all he had left from the entire event were a few of these laptops. She wasn't clear on what kind it was, only the brand. She couldn't even remember the size or ANY of the specs or model numbers other than it was an Ideapad... and it was often times right under her nose! Anyways, I figured that if it did actually happen, we'd get the computer months from now after she got bored with it or what not. But, upon hearing that I had to sell my personal computer to make ends meet, she offered us to pick it up today. And, when I finally got it I was *very* surprised! I was expecting either an old model computer with a pirated copy of windows 7 or XP, or a netbook. Now, any computer gifted to us is a blessing and I will not turn it awya... but ...
What we DID get was a Dual-Core Lenovo Ideapad U350 !! While not the most powerful of computers, it was a dual core chip, 320gig HD, Windows 7 Premium and a whole host of neat little features along with an 8 hour battery... for free!!! It's a very nice machine, and I'm quite pleased with it
The thing that bugs me is that I have yet to get a nice birthday present for Delores, and I'm going to be stuck working on her birthday
BUT, I plan to make her party on Saturday the best I can make it!! We only have a little time on Friday and unti 8pm on Saturday to make things work. Luckily she's going to a baby shower on the same day as her party, which leaves me with the (somewhat running) car so I can get decorations, beverages, and perhaps a gift or two for her while she's at the baby-estrogen-fest-thing.
And, on a final possible bit of good news: I may of found a used car lot that will finance us on a car she actually likes! We test drove a '96 Jeep Cherokee, and while it looks a bit dated and doesn't have the best paintjob, it drove great and has low mileage for the year! A few dents, but the engine is solid, and it's a "Country" package... and all we need is $600 for a downpayment!! At $4,000 total it is a *slight* bit higher than market value, but with my credit I can't expect too much and it's about as fair a price as I'll get with a Jeep. If only we can find a renter who wants to move into our place and who we can get along with... Seriously!! I've never seen a place with more features and as cheap a rent have such a hard time getting filled! And, it turns out that TWO of my friends are also looking for roommates to fill spaces in their leases and/or mortgages. It seems everyone's looking for a roommate to make ends meet, but no one needs a place.
Part of me kind of wishes we weren't tied up with our lease in order to gain some cheaper rent with a friend of ours who has a house of her own. It has a garage, a jacuzzi and she's a nudist as well!! It would be a perfect fit for us and, while a bit further out, has tons of space in the home.
But, we have our own home, and we're more than willing to make it home to a kind soul... if we can ever find one to fill the extra room and private bathroom...
