I've been at my new job for a bit over 2 months now. Still a bit getting used to working in a corporate environment again after having previouly worked in an art school for 5 years. Lawyers, accountants, and programmers, oh my. Monday to Thursday everyone around me in business attire, then comes casual Friday in t-shirts and jeans. Sorta different having been in an environment seeing all manners of clothing style, body modifications, and hairstyles (or lack of hair) among both students and faculty/staff. Heck, I wore black t-shirt, black jeans, and mid-calf, 14-eyelet, 3 buckled, Doc Marten boots. And for a year, I had a moustache and goatee and shoulder length hair (I'd thought I would have long straight hair, but I end up with wavey hair). Eh, now I wear blue, grey, or white dress shirts and black dress pants. But I still wear Doc Marten shoes and no way am I wearing a tie. Though, I did wear one for the job interview. My hair is starting to get long and probably soon get a haircut like my picture from about a year ago.
Once in awhile, I'll see a woman not sporting the usual business look. About a few times, while waiting in line in a Starbuck's across from where I work, I see an asian woman in her early-40's? with her hair styled like sailor moon, but still wearing a business dress and carrying a breifcase. And at one time her outfit was a salmon pink color. OK, so I miss seeing the different outfits the fashion design students wear. I used to make a game of guessing who's a fashion design student before she presses the 7th floor button or gets out at the 7th floor. (ugh, the usual annoying commercial of the art school just played on the TV) Anyway, one time, me and a student were just sorta occasionally glance at each other waiting for the elevator. Then we got in the elevator and I guessed she's gonna press 7. And I was right. And we keep slightly glancing each other. I got out at my floor, and as I walk away from the elevator lobby, I hear a loud lusty "OW!" behind me and the elevator door closed. *sigh* Too bad something like that would only happen once in a lifetime. *shrug* Beats an occurance in high school, walking into a bus and several girls mockingly laugh at me while I pass them by. eh.

I hope you don't get too bored in the sea of suits. I guess suits are apropriate for the environment. I like to think of dressing apropriately as a sign of respect for those around you. Then when I like those around me I don't consider it selling out as much as demonstrating respect for what I do and those I do it with. Maybe it is flawed, but it wors for me. I'm much happier now working for myself though. Going on 3 years without a "real" job and going to school for interior design though I make clothing for a living, how funny is that? I really did not want to go to fashion school.
Your work at school attire sounds HOT!! Btw.
Sad your hair decided to be wavy, long hair on men has always been my weakness. My hair is curly/wavy too, I feel your pain. I always thought as long as I got the Asian eyes and puffy undereyes that go with it the least the genetics could have done was give me the bone straight hair like my mom has too. Instead I got my dads impossible curls. Oh well, I'm sure if I did get my mom's hair I would be complaining about it as well. Have a great day!!!
