So, it was supposed to be a 5 hour stay at Santa Monica to replace a hard drive, revive the OS and possible data restore. Simple. The OS revival took longer and full 120GB of data restore from tape. OK, flight Thursday morning. Nope. Server crashed again in the morning. A few reboots and its stable. Nope. More drives failing. Manager tells me they'll ship another computer to me and it'll get to me Friday morning. Meanwhile, call vendor tech support to get server fixed. In the middle of troubleshooting with the tech (*cough* offshore support *cough*) the server crashed again. He had read the logs. They'll send me a replacement drive. So, Friday, scheduled flight in afternoon. Replacement server arrives early morning. And look inside... no internal cables for the SATA drives and different external scsi interface (to hook the external tape drive) Right, so where's the nearest computer shop that's opened 9am. Store #1, nothing here, suggested store #2. Store #2, nothing here, suggested store #3 Walked several blocks to hotel (the hotel was two blocks away from office) and drove to Store #3, which definitely had the cables. Gettin' angsty whether being able to make flight home. At 11:20 am, start tape restore of data. EST process @ 3 hours. Uh, lessee, my flight from Burbank to SFO is at 5:55pm and I need to be there at 4:55pm and normally it takes 30minutes from my location but it's Friday w/ the usuall Friday traffic in the LA area, so I have to leave at 3:30pm. And at 3:00pm, I noticed the tape restore process restoring back to orginal server. Restore back to original directories but forgot about the part about sending it to the new server Yeah so, rescheduled flight next morning but hotel already booked for the night (finally found a place 1/2 mile away) So Saturday morning, arrived about 1 hour before my flight out of Burbank at 8:22am. Went in, and see a loooooooooong line to get in. UT OH. Half hour in line and find out my flight is delayed, Oh, and about 20 people stranded after it was announced that a flight to Denver leaves in 30 seconds. I hear angry people. Anyway, finally got home an hour ago. So, how was your week?
