So, hopefully, won't be a busy week. The boss won't back until next week, because he had neck surgery done to relieve some neck pain, and J (senior admin) will be out for a week starting Thursday to attend her sister's wedding. So, Thursday and Friday, will be me and H (the other admin). Damn, I hoped it won't be busy. Sure, H has some...

I've been at my new job for a bit over 2 months now. Still a bit getting used to working in a corporate environment again after having previouly worked in an art school for 5 years. Lawyers, accountants, and programmers, oh my. Monday to Thursday everyone around me in business attire, then comes casual Friday in t-shirts and jeans. Sorta different having been in an...

That does get a bit dull. I know when I worked in the corporate environment i never fit in. I guess I never fit in anyplace really but there was even worse. I had this old 1960 hearse and one of my bosses used to mock me for it all the time and other people often would compliment me on being the only different and interesting person they had seen in months. I was the office manager and our business partners and others from NY and SF always told me I made them feel at home. Was that a compliment? Not quite sure, but I took it as one. I dressed in business attire and kept my hair in a french twist or otherwise up styled, but as a freind of mine said, I'd look goth with blond hair and a lime green paisley suit. I guess she was right.
I hope you don't get too bored in the sea of suits. I guess suits are apropriate for the environment. I like to think of dressing apropriately as a sign of respect for those around you. Then when I like those around me I don't consider it selling out as much as demonstrating respect for what I do and those I do it with. Maybe it is flawed, but it wors for me. I'm much happier now working for myself though. Going on 3 years without a "real" job and going to school for interior design though I make clothing for a living, how funny is that? I really did not want to go to fashion school.
Your work at school attire sounds HOT!! Btw.
Sad your hair decided to be wavy, long hair on men has always been my weakness. My hair is curly/wavy too, I feel your pain. I always thought as long as I got the Asian eyes and puffy undereyes that go with it the least the genetics could have done was give me the bone straight hair like my mom has too. Instead I got my dads impossible curls. Oh well, I'm sure if I did get my mom's hair I would be complaining about it as well. Have a great day!!!

So, it was supposed to be a 5 hour stay at Santa Monica to replace a hard drive, revive the OS and possible data restore. Simple. The OS revival took longer and full 120GB of data restore from tape. OK, flight Thursday morning. Nope. Server crashed again in the morning. A few reboots and its stable. Nope. More drives failing. Manager tells me they'll ship...

Happy Birthday!!!
That is a really good idea, and totally what I'd do if my monitor wasn't a 24" Sony GDM FW900. I found a shop on the other side of town who will fix it for $150, so that isn't too bad and will leave me with something better than I could buy new or used.
I'm totally a fix-it don't toss it environmentalist kind of girl anyway. I like to buy old quality stuff and keep it up rather than replacing cheap new stuff. I drive a really old Mercedes, have a house with the original olive green apliances and walnut stained everything and have recovered my sofas and refinished my furniture several times since buying it second hand. I just feel better about stuff when I can put a little of myself into it and know I saved it from a landfill.
I think that's probably pretty normal.....
when I went to vegas for bond con a few years ago, My friend and I played on the poles on the shuttle on the way to baggage claim.....
