I fucking hate how society these days pushes everyone to constantly work. Or maybe it's just the industry I'm in. Once I've got my photojournalist qualification I'm hopefully going to get out of daily newspapers... too stressfull.
Today, for example: I've been sick for the past week and a half, really bad headaches, nausea, horrible aching muscles, and all last night I kept waking up feeling sick. So today I called in sick, and what did my boss say? Not "hope you feel better soon," but "You're kidding me. You better get that sorted out right away because you need to be at work."
I said, "I'm sorry, but I can't help it if I'm sick. I'm going to see the doctor again today," and he was just like "Yeah, well just hurry up and get it fixed, we can't afford for you to be having time off."
FUCK!!!!!
All the staff at our newspaper have 8 designated sick days per year, and I didn't use all mine last year. I rarely have days off sick, but we're so understaffed that most people go to work even if they are sick, because we're so pressured to. Unless you're really very sick, you're pretty much still expected to come to work.
So basically, it sucks balls.
I just think that businesses need to realise that people need a balance between work and personal life... maybe it's also because I'm young, my boss thinks, 'she doesn't have kids or anything yet, she can work overtime as much as we want her to.' I dunno.
Cos I work my arse off for them. For a small wage. And I work EVERY saturday, all day, and Friday nights too.
Yeah... just wanted to whinge. I'm not looking forwards to going to work tomorrow because everyone will be like, she is so slack, probably wasn't even sick.
Blahhhh....
