My girl and I went to see Corpse Bride yesterday. I liked it more than I thought I would. I'm not really sure why I thought I wouldn't dig it that much - maybe it was the 2 so-so reviews I read or maybe it was the idea that it was just going to be NBC part 2. Either way I ended up digging it.
One thing I was really impressed with was the lighting. Whether it was real or simulated I do not know, but it was amazing. There was a scene where they were in a sort of pub of the undead and the lighting was very harsh, casting many shadows. This seemed a tad revolutionary to me. Usually with any kind of stop-motion animation you get all "high-noon" lighting all the time. No shadows, no difference in tone.
Thank you
P.S. You'll be happy to know I bought a new glass cutter and cut the Hell out of some glass. I now have a new basement window.
