this past weekend has been hell...
a couple of cards, as it turned out, were lifted out of my fiancee's wallet at work...
the subsequent hell that has followed is enough to make someone go postal...
over two thousand dollars in purchases where made on the 17th....
three of the bigger purchases where made in higher end clothing stores...people who are required by law to check ID, and obviously never did...
now we are playing the fucking waiting game...in part because the bank we filed the report at by my fiancee's work didn't believe us...I've worked at a bank for two years so i knew specifically what to ask for...
in the issues regarding checks we had previously written agains't our account to pay bills this lady said there was nothing to be done, which was bullshit.
any bank, especially one as big as Washington mutual have a system where unclaimed checks can be paid through another existing or opened account. If this ever happens to any of you, and I pray to God that it doesnt', and the bank says no they are fuckin' lying!!!
They told us what we could do was call each company we paid the check to and tell them our situations and make a stop payment on our checks...which means they charge us 25 a pop, but hey, thems the breaks. I asked for a typed out letter from the bank explaining our situation and she told me straight to my face that that was a concern of the bank where we originally opened the account.
Mind you, on that particular day it took about an hour to get from Reseda to LA...and our originating bank was in burbank...about another fifteen minute drive...i good traffic!
What she was telling us was also a lie...
what she was really telling us was that our situation seemed suspicious and their branch didn't want to risk taking the loss...let the other branch worry about it.
It is a common practice, you might be familiar with it...i, myself, practiced it when i was at a bank...so in a way this whole situation is karma for me...
i accept my punishment, now i'm warning you. Banks are also supposed to give you a letter at your request...they don't even type it out at the branch...they make the order by computer and the letter is sent to the customer via mail...
this way there is no worry of forgery by employees a the bank...
the lady at the bank had lied to my face again...
so off to our originating bank where they understood the rules of banking a little better, I had my letter order typed up and sent out...i had my unpaid checks rerouted to another account...and now we wait...
and now i come to the reason why i am here talking today...
this, unfortunately, ended up happening on the week that my account at SG to renew itself...
problem is i haven't the money now...and as of tomorrow i will have to cancel my account...until further notice...
i have made some really cool friends here so i am rather sorry to leave...i finally made it into SGLA, and now i have to say good bye to it...
for now...
i'm definately coming back, i just don;t know when exactly...thanks to all of you for an incredible year...until we meet again...
sincerely
david
PS- as angry as i feel inside I have to believe there is good in this world...that no matter what happens there is something out there watching out for us...
they tell you that when things like this happen you should count was is good in the situation...
for my fiancee and I it is knowing that she was never in danger...that these people only took the money and nothing more precious and valuable...
It was, afterall, only money...
