Been thinking about photgraphs and how I don't like them. Not anymore in an adolescent "ew that's not me" way, more because they are everywhere now.
It used to just be the geeks at gigs with cameras, that was ok. They were more cute than annoying and they'd always stop to watch the band after a while. Even the wannabe pros would run out of film.
But.
Now there's digital cameras and cameras in phones, folk are using them all the fucking time. At Aphex Twin last week, there were folk stood for the whole set filming the thing on their phones. Maybe they sent lots of messages to their 100s of friends saying "hey I'm at Aphex Twin and I'm having a great time!" but ARGGH totally missing the point.
What're the photos going to remind them of? Standing in folks' way taking photos of a man with a laptop. Woo.
The more photos you take the less experience there is for the photos to remind you of. And do you need more than one good photo of your family and friends? I don't think so. One's all you need to trigger off the memories you have of them and what's more valuable?
Give me the bruise and the memory rather than a whole box full of extra photos of the things I've done. I didn't even take my camera on holiday this year. Will I forget the sun setting over Kyle of Lochalsh? No. And if I do then that's reason to go back. there.
