"Roland!" he cries.
"We've been betrayed!
We're outnumbered!
Our backs are to the sea!
We've got em right where we want em!
Shall we charge?"

the turtle: you will kill everything and everyone you love, and still the TOWER will be pent shut against you
roldand: NO! IT WILL NOT STAND! WHEN I COME HERE IN MY BODY, IT WILL NOT STAND! I SWEAR ON MY FATHER'S NAME, IT WILL NOT STAND!
the turtle: then die.

time to suck it up today. monday i gathered enough motivation to run through 3" of snow on the trail, but yesterday chicago got hit with another 2-4 inches. so i stayed inside and then watched pirates of the carribean with a friend instead of going to water polo practice. at least i got a work out shoveling the driveway. damn i wish the mercury...

hey, why end things if you don't want to? letters can be very romantic. even though my bf is a total louse, we've decided not to completely redefine our relationship just yet, i mean our feelings are still as strong, just because he moved didn't change that. what do you have to lose by trying?
in other news, i did het the mac--a 12inch ibook. i'm kind of below the curve since i'm used to a pc, but i looove it.

it may not be fair to all the authors patiently waiting on my shelf, but i had to start "breakfast of champions" over the weekend. after a hundred pages, i think it's one of the funniest books i've ever read. the illustrations by the author add to the nonsense. so far the drawing of the bomb "good bye blue monday" is my favorite.

all morning...

And some are not just ugly, but deluded into thinking that obnoxious is a good substitute for witty!
dame_doom:
what makes you think hemingway wouldn't drink something a la fire and sugar?

i'm not sure the fire really does anything to chemically alter the absinthe but damn it sure is pretty.

i was so lucid and in control, in ways that i never would have been if i had been drinking straight liquor.

oh yeah and the kissing was pretty phenomenal too...

finished cat's cradle on monday night. except for stanley kubrick in "dr. strangelove" i don't think anyone could have envisioned a funnier end of the world than vonnegut. tempted to start "breakfast of champions" next, but it doesn't seem fair to all the other great authors.

it's now less than a month until i ship to basic training. seems like the time is flying by....

you know, in the tarot the major arcana starts out with and ends with the fool.
it's all cyclical and circular.

besides, if she makes you happy that's all that matters.

Your right. I'm getting my shit together a little better today.

thermometer actually reads above 30 degrees. another balmy day in chicago!

one month until i ship out to basic training. the daily 3 mile run has started feeling better, and i've already shaved a few minutes off my time from last week. of course, as soon as it snows big the trail will be a mess and i'll be going slow. between the run and...

Hope you don't sweat to death up there!

I'm impressed at the dedication to getting in shape before you head off to basic.
dame_doom:
you need a big-ass book, like crytponomicon.

oh and it's in the 30s here and feels practically balmy!

after meeting with the recruiters here in chicago, it has dawned upon me that they are serious about PT and getting into decent shape before basic training. my parents neighborhood (yeah, gotta crash with the folks until i ship) is directly across the street from a forest preserve with off-road and paved trails. yesterday i ran the east loop, and when i got home to...

Well, it's like this.

If I have regular coffee, I can drink it black no problem. But if I have flavored coffee, like I do right now, (tiramisu flavored) I end up needing milk and sugar or it doesn't taste right at all.

Yeah, I love biscuits and gravy also. Ever have gravy fries? Good old brown gravy over a big thick pile of french fries? That and a roast beef sandwich and a nice thick shake and I'm a happy man! Damn, I wonder how I manage not to get fat!
sebsis:
Yeah, I used to lose track of what day of the week it was when I was a sailor. When you work 7 days a week, no TV or radio, just whatever movies are onboard, or whatever music you brought out, you can really get lost. Even when we hit post and you get to go ashore you don't really know what day it is. Then you fly home and you have to readjust to walking on land, things being closed on vertain days, stuff like that.

The Blackhawks certainly aren't the team they used to be, but someday they will be a strong force in the league again. No team should rely on a single player. That's why there are 5 other guys on the ice with him.

it's been too long. how i missed SG over the last few weeks.

left portland late on the 27th just before the snow. got through the snow in northern california and made it to san fran. had dinner w/ an old friend, took a bang-up hour long driving tour around the city, then split for san diego. got there early on the 29th to surprise...

I see your point, but in this case... She's a whack job. She is so hung up on talking about spell casting and covens and her lover being attacked by some other girl with some psychic attack thing she couldn't even eat her dessert and her chai got cold. She pointed to an apartment complex and said that's where her coven meets and I said I had not been in that complex is it nice? She just kept talking about the same stuff. She paused once and I asked her a question and she said to hang on because something was communicating with her. Also she referred to a cat that her lover has as her lovers familiar. I know lot's of people into wicca and stuff, and they do rituals and things, and I think nothing of it. Discussed it from time to time, it's not for me, but it works for them. But this girl is just plain battling evil in another dimension.

Edited to add that it's good to have you back!

got the brain working again. been a complete literary slacker for too long and now the pages are flying by. couldn't tell any difference between the old & newly revised gunslinger, but it's been a while since i've read it. same thing happened when i saw the director's cut of alien halloween weekend. it had probably been 10 years since i had seen the original....

People don't realize that there is something in the back of their car called a spare tire, and you can put it on your car and take a flat tire off and get the flat fixed. Instead they drive around with a slow leak for months adding air once in a while until either just before closing when the tech has worked 11 hours with no lunch, or a holiday, and suddenly it's an emergency. But it's my job, so I tell them to go inside and sit down and wait (mechanics may say it's okay to hang out and watch, but honestly it's irritating to be working your ass off and have someone standing cross armed, leaning against something watching you). And I get them in and out as fast as I can. I didn't even mount a single new tire yesterday, although I did do a couple of oil changes to break the dull routine, but finally 5:00 came and I got to do donuts in the parking lot with my S-10 to the delight of my co-workers. We hung out for about 15 minutes doing donuts in the parkinig lot. It was great!

black friday is over, for me anyway. things were busy at the store today and of course i had the early shift and a hang over from thanksgiving. only enough time for one cup of coffee before my shift. but i'm still alive.

had a date on tuesday that went pretty well. went out to eat at montage and then bar-hopping afterwards. turns out she's...
