Hello,
This weekend was nice, one nap after the other, watched one movie after the other. It's a nap/movie binging weekend. I think everyone needs those every now and then. I must mention July was an intense month...Four Death From Above 1979 shows...all at the Horseshoe Tavern. It truly made my year.
Back to the movie thing:
DVD rentals:
1) Card Player (latest horror masterpiece from Supsiria director Dario Argento)
2) Last Samurai
3) The Woodsman.
DVD Purchases:
1) Scarface (Al PAcino version)
2) Killing Zoe
3) Way Of The Gun
I know they're all pretty violent choices, but life's like that. I can never squeeze enough movies in on my days off. I try.
Speaking of vioence, our fair city has been plagued by a rash of random and not-so-random shootings. All over, nowhere is safe really. I used to not be afraid to walk down the street, that's changed a bit. You could literally get shot at just putting money in the meter after you park your car. It IS that bad now. I think the Government should pay out $1 Million dollars per gun voluntarily handed in...who'd resist that kind of money? Toronto had a similar program in place a few years ago. It worked to a limited degree, I think they may even bring it back.
Off to a less violent subject, I was talking to a friend last week. I dunno if she's gonna continue to be my friend. We were having a lovely chat, I mention the devil, she freaks out and I haven't heard from her since. I mentioned a few things about the church of satan and now she thinks I worship the devil. That's just fucking beautiful. Talking about the devil doesn't necessarily invite him into your life anyway. For those of us who believe in this dark force, it already co-exists with us whether we refuse to acknowledge his presence or not. Think about it, the elements are all there, the evil that people do, the evil that they speak. Humans are constantly surrounded by products of the devil. So I don't think there's a significant difference in bringing up the subject anyway. I believe he just laughs and mocks us when we cower at the mere mention of his name. I'm not trying to get a rise out of anyone on this matter...I think some people just over-react to something that they aren't fully educated on. It's human nature to fear what they don't see or understand. Their impulse reaction is to either ignore it or shun it. Case closed. It's sad really. That's all I can say.
