I like the Dixie Chicks, and I can say that and not feel embarrassed now because they are less "redneck". This gave me a whole new insight into how I choose music. Pretty shallow. I have to say, they have some songs that I really like but could never bear to admit it to myself. And isn't that a shame? I was being a musical snob. And I still am because now I feel like it will be okay to admit I like them since they have spoken out and have been derided for it. Okay, well then, let me also admit I like Dolly Parton.

The personal politics of artists never matter to me, for some reason. I like a few Dixie Chicks songs (especially that delightful "Goodbye Earl"), but they just don't particularly work for me. Dolly, on the other hand, always seems to work. She even did a cover of "Stairway to Heaven" that was decent, if you can believe it.

I think I've successfully passed through the black hole. The brain might come back. I hope.
