So, first of all I'm sick: Fever, body aches, coughing, cold sweat, congestion, the whole nine. In addition, I've recently been threatened with eviction from my apartment. The resident manager is a tyrannical lout. We went over his head. I do believe it is going to be alright.
The only reason I mention the sickness and eviction is because it sort of sets the stage for what happened to me over the weekend. First, brief review: In a previous blog I mentioned that an old martial arts training partner had adapted a movie to stage play and asked me if I wanted to be in it. He'd informed me that auditions would be October 10th and 11th.
Now, comes the sickness and eviction problem this past week and weekend, and I'm not thinking about a play or auditions...it pretty much slipped my mind in the middle of the chaos. So, my friend calls me yesterday, took me a second to realize it was him, and tells me the auditions are happening. Oh damn, forgot! So I tell him I can come to the audition tomorrow, which actually was today.
So, it went well. The play involves martial arts, which is why my friend wanted me in the play, so the first part of the audition was working through some martial arts material. Then we had readings.
I realized how it feels good to me, natural, to act. I really enjoyed it. I love theater people too, they're very alive and free. It made me realize how much more I enjoy the theater atmosphere and the people involved in it compared to my actual job, where staff spend all their time coercing people and telling them how to live. I love my clients, but I can do without staff and company policy: Again, to review, I work with persons with developmental disabilities.
So, the director ended by saying that everyone there would be in the play, but he wasn't sure who would be who.
I can tell you this: The actors are awesome, the play is great and funny. I'm pretty excited. This whole process is going to take awhile. So, I believe it will be awhile before anything gets into motion. But I'll keep you updated. Maybe I'll actually have pictures!
