My favorite fictional "Villain" is Erik in "The Phantom of the Opera" (My best is the musical movie by Joel Shumacher and Andrew Loyd Webber)
I don't think he's the bad guy in the story and I'm honestly in love with his character... Of course I miss various versions of this masterpiece, but in most of them, he is depicted as a singer, musician, composer, conjurer, alchemist, inventor, transformer, ventriloquist and teacher .. A true genius, an artist ...
He falls in love with the young Christine introducing himself to her, since as a child, like an angel, his angel of music.
The love that hatches for her is something morbid that I find truly fascinating ... Her whole life is based on following, admiring her beloved, dedicating her, his life.
Unfortunately Chistine follows her heart, in the wrong direction, finding her longtime friend Raoul, the "de Changny" vistonte and thus unleashing the ghost's anger ...
The ghost brings with it wounds due to its deformity, when he was child locked up in a circus as a slum phenomenon. Having managed to escape he takes refuge in the basement of the opera, which has become his home ...
I was deeply disappointed by the choice of Christine, now The phantom full of resentment towards him especially after seeing his terrified reaction because of his face.
Yet before feeling affection for the viscount she was infatuated with the ghost. It was clear that he felt something for him ... So I wonder, when you feel something about a person how it is possible to be frightened by a "defect"? What makes a "defect" unattractive to the beholder? Perhaps the habit of the "normal". But if the deformity were normal and our Christine had not looked only with the eyes, but with the eyes of the soul, would she have chosen him? I realize that perhaps there were also other things to the disadvantage of the ghost .... But his terror having seen it is something that leads me to reflect, we live it always and every day, as much as people do not really see beauty.
So in your opinion, who do you think is the real villain?
