let me ring these babies out...
I also took all the chemicals out of my house recently, and whipped up some homemade cleaning products.
Starting with:
HomeMade Glass Cleaner
Recipe #1
1 tablespoon - vinegar
1 cup - water
1 cup - rubbing alcohol
Mix together and pour into a spray bottle.
(this one is my favorite)
Recipe #2
1/4 cup vinegar
1/2 teaspoon liquid dish washing detergent
2 cups of water
Mix these ingredients and put them in a spray bottle. Use the same as commercial window cleaner.
(Some think this is the best homemade glass cleaner because it's sudsy)
Laundry Soap Recipe (Liquid)
A lot of people use powder.. but I wanted to make liquid as that's what I'm used to. Easy to make.
1. Grate the Bar of soap
2.Put in a pot with 4 cups of hot water. Stir continuously over medium-low heat until all of the soap flakes have dissolved and melted (about 10 minutes).
It should be slightly foamy with no chunks or flakes to be found.
3.Fill a 5-gallon bucket half-full of hot water.
4.Pour in the soap mixture. Add 1 cup of Arm & Hammer Washing Soda and 1/2 cup Borax. Stir.
5. Fill the rest of the 5-gallon bucket with water until it is full. Stir again
6.Cover and let sit overnight.
7.When you open the top up the next day, it should have gelled and thickened slightly. Stir again.
8.Use a funnel to fill a clean laundry detergent container (or gallon-size milk jug) and fill it HALF way with the soap mixture. Fill the other half with water and shake.
Instructions for Use::
*Homemade Liquid
Laundry Soap*
-Shake well before each use
-Use 1/4 cup for an HE machine
-Use 5/8 cup for a regular machine
-Use stain remover for tough stains
Floor Cleaner:
1.Fill a bucket (or your sink) with hot water.
2.Pour in about 1/4 cup (a splash) of white vinegar.
3.Add 15 drops essential oil.
and finally...
Homemade Liquid Dish Soap Recipe
Ingredients:
-1 cup of hot water
- cup liquid castile soap (I usually use Dr. Bronners baby mild liquid soap, but feel free to use any scent just be sure to adjust/omit essential oils accordingly. You may want to use a variety that is already scented for a more frugal option.)
-1 tablespoon of white vinegar
-1 tablespoon of Arm&Hammers Super Washing Soda (used to thicken the soap)
-1/8 teaspoon of tea tree oil (optional)
To really thicken the soap to be more like store-bought dish soap, add only 1 tablespoon of shredded bar soap (I use my homemade, old-fashioned lye soap and the grease cutting ability is incredible) to the recipe above. See my video tutorial and revised recipe for Homemade Liquid Dish Soap by clicking here.
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients into a large bowl and then pour in 1 1/2 cup of very hot water. Be sure to whisk/stir this mixture until all ingredients are thoroughly blended (and the bar soap is melted).
2. Allow mixture to cool completely on the counter. Stirring occasionally.
3. Store in any dish soap dispensing bottle and use as you would the commercial brands.
Note: You may choose to naturally increase the anti-bacterial qualities of the soap by adding 1/4 tsp. of lavender or eucalyptus essential oils.
seriously, fucking try this shit out. stop co- existing with those nasty chemicals. these recipes are super easy. BEYOND cheap. I love it.
