I just heard Depeche Mode's new single, Precious. Being a consistent fan of their work through Exciter, the latest piece I just heard will keep me on the same track.
Their music continues to be a dose of harsh reality, but also maintains a sense of hope and optimism conveyed not only through the lyrics, but also the relatively simple melodies and countermelodies.
This first single feels a like a somewhat odd cross between tracks from Violator and Exciter; it borders mainstream electronic alternative of the former, while retaining the cyclical personal transcendence (at least that's what I gathered ) of one's self of the latter. The analogue synth effects totally work.
The sinlge will be released on October 3rd and 4th in the UK and US, respectively.
I pray you learn to trust
Have faith in both of us
And keep room in your heart for two
Things get damaged
Things get broken
I thought we'd manage
But words left unspoken
Left us so brittle
There was so little left to give
