So get this! I no longer work for Hollywood Video! Woot!
But you will never guess what they did to me.
So yesterday, I go into work, in a good mood because I got up early, had time to wake up, was in a new apartment with my wonderful boyfriend, no stinky roommates and a bag of hot fries. I get there right on time, the drive wasn't bad, I got right to work and then took a break after two hours.
My DM walks in.
He chitchats for about three hours, talking on his phone to other people, trying to make conversation with my customers (idiot), and talking to me about how the company is going and how he is leaving the end of this week.
So I thought everything was fine until he goes, "I want to present you with an opportunity to get some stress off your shoulders." I said okay... and asked what it was. "Well how would you feel about stepping down and Jason being manager?"
Let me tell you about Jason:
1. He is a pasty, nasty, sneaky mother fucker.
2. Plays video games all the time.
3. Likes to grip your hand so hard during a hand shake that it might break.
4. Talks like a cheesy used car salesman.
5. Looks at you like he is a super creepy pedifile.
6. Customers hate him.
7. Two of his stores have already been closed.
8. Called me out in front of my entire district when our DM was gone even though what happened was beyond my control.
9. Secret shopped my employees even though they know who his is, and then wrote them off for not offering him powerplay because they knew him.
10. Is best friends with Pete my DM.
11. Has been spreading rumors for over three weeks about how he was going to get either my store or my best friends store.
Okay so now that you know a little about him, you might be able to see why it would be hard for me to get along with him, let alone work with him, while he runs MY STORE, that I had put so much fucking work into, so he can come in and change it all around. So I asked Pete if I had time to think about my decision, and he just kind of gave me a look, and I was like, "Oh, so I have no say?", and he says nope and that Jason would be in this week.
So Pete starts changing shit in the computer right away, and then goes into the back. Then Jason comes strolling in, like he had been waiting outside. He comes up to me in his cheesy salesmen voice and goes "HELLO!" and attempts to shake my hand.
Well I glared at him, and simply stated: "To be completely honest right now Jason, I don't even want to talk to you let alone shake your hand, Pete is in the back so you can go back there."
So to make a long story short, Pete was mad because I was being "hostile" towards Jason because I didn't want to shake his hand because he was stealing my store from me and screwing over my employees. I told Pete that I knew I was getting screwed and the only reason that Jason was in my store was because he was leaving and Jason was his buddy, he then denied it up and down, even though I know he was lying through his teeth because he has been the entire time. I then told him that I was going to take some sick time and go home for the day, so I went up front, closed my drawer, didn't say a thing to Jason, got my shit, and got ready to leave. I said to Pete "Good luck with the new job and have a great day", smiled and left.
When I went home, I talked the whole situation over with Dusten, he can manage without me working right now. The only reason that they wanted me to stay on the staff was because Jason doesn't have a fucking clue what he is doing and they needed me to train him. They wanted us to work as partners. I'm sorry, but I can't go from making my own schedule to having someone I hate, that is my equal not my superior make it.
I decided to give Jason a call instead of just not showing up. This is how the conversation went.
Jason: Hello
Chelsea: Hi there Jason, I just thought I would call and give you a heads up that you might want to find someone else to open tomorrow since I will not be working for you. Also, I wanted to let you know that I know you are a thieving scumbag that doesn't deserve to have a store and the only way you could get one is to go behind everyones backs.
Jason: It was the companies decision.
Chelsea: Oh bullshit, I'm not stupid Jason, I know you and Pete are buddy buddy, and that he just threw you in here before he left. And another thing, everyone knows what you have done, and no one likes you, nor have they ever, so things are about to get a whole lot harder for you. I hope you are happy, enjoy the store.
Ernie, my assistant, called me later that night and told me after he got off the phone his face was like he had just found out a family member died. He then later found out that the manager from the East Greenbush store was leaving, which is a way nicer store then mine. Karma is a bitch.
But you will never guess what they did to me.

I really like the way you let him have it over the phone. Kudos! Good luck with the landscaping gig.

Sounds like you have lifted quite a bit of stress off your life.
