Life is beautiful when it's berry season. I feel sorry for you if you're not in an area where you can harvest berries right now. Here in Western Washington, we are in the peak of blackberry season, the luscious, juicy berries just begging to be picked.
One for me, one for the basket, one for me, one for the basket.
I mix them with vegan ice cream, I eat them in salads, I freeze them for winter use. I love free food and harvest time.
Blackberries are so metaphorical for life in this country as well. You have to fight thorns to get to the sweet fruits and you get scratched up if you go into an area that no one else normally goes. The abundant berries that grow everywhere are actually an invasive species from the Euro-Asian continent. They overtake native species here in the US, but at the same time, they are still beautiful and delicious in their own way.
I was reading an article once that was telling the city of Seattle to not chop down blackberry brambles so the homeless could have tons of fresh fruit every day and use the leftovers to make wine and sell it.
Update: I picked a container full of berries, only to throw them all back when I realized I was picking right next to a HUGE septic tank. Ew. Then while riding back home empty-handed, I got a slow leak, so I had to walk my bike back home.

I love the summer, when berries, peaches, plums and cherries are fresh.
No self-respecting Southerner is without at least one recipe for cobbler made from these fresh fruits....
Our tradition calls for cobbler to be served warm, with a dollop of heavy whipping cream or ice cream.
