I had a conversation last night about how today's music is going to make its mark on history, how current generations are going to relate back to this time in the future. It's so hard now to find people (or really, make new friends) who source their new music the same way you do. Up until only a few years ago, most people had radio as a common source. Whatever your favorite genre, most people around you who swung the same way were listening to the same radio stations or going to the same bars. Now, some of your new alt/emo/indie friends are reading Pitchfork or Spin as if they were the bible, others are letting Pandora gather their obsessions-to-be, others are just raiding peoples' shared folders on Soulseek or Limewire or whatever. So how many years is it going to take for us to make new friends who are aware of the same new artists we are? And it's already hard to predict who's going to get big and stand the test of time.
What I'm really getting at is...
Who wants to go see Pendulum and Crystal Method with me at Webster Hall this Saturday?
