I should make a recommendation, because yesterday I had such an amazing experience at a Jewish deli, that it can't remain a secret.
One of my closest friends in the world was staying with me for the past week, in from New Mexico, and we were attempting to stop in on DiFara's Pizza in Midwood, Brooklyn. It's won best slice awards over countless many years over the past decade. Like a European museum or something, it was closed Mondays. Devastated, we wandered this largely Jewish neighborhood looking for tasty eats. We almost settled for kosher pizza (second-best on any list, I'd imagine), when this bright, new, large Jewish deli called Mendy's called out to us. unbelievable brisket, great pastrami sandwiches, tons of crabby, gossipy old Jewish ladies with excessive jacked up makeup, and an old orthodox Jewish man painting a mural right behind where we were sitting. I hope this place sticks around for a hundred years. It's just as much worth the trip on the Q train as DiFara's Pizza.

Sadly, this all stems from the Clinton era - he was my favorite president but... he was the one who pushed legislation that would ease restrictions on getting credit (from Fannie and Freddie) so that lower middle class folks could live the American dream of home ownership. It just sort of spiraled out of control.
