Weird.
My mom's husband is trying to convince her that it's a good idea for them to go vegan. What's weird about it is he was on the atkins diet when he met my mom. He's a really good guy, but has never really been healthy I don't think. Overweight, diabetic, meat eater. He has recently been trying to get healthy though. Through popping vitamins mostly.
My mom is one of those ladies that is perpetually going on a new hip diet or buying some exercise machine and using it for a couple weeks before getting tired of it. So she never really loses weight because of it. She's not fat or anything, she just wants to be fit. She's also the type of person that says she could go vegetarian. Of course she could. easiest thing ever, but I very rarely see her go a day without eating meat.
Neither of them are healthy, and both seem to have neverending doctors appointments. They eat really bad though, they don't completely realize it, and I usually keep my mouth shut. The type of people that think turkey hot dogs are healthier than beef hot dogs. Not just healthier, but in fact think they're healthy. Whether they're beef, turkey, vegetarian or vegan, I refuse to believe hotdogs are healthy in any form. Especially those hot dogs with a cheesy center.
Recently out of the blue he suggests that he and my mom should switch to a vegan diet. A total surprise to me, because he's a big fan of meat, cheese, eggs. All of that. I qoute, "I think a lot of our problems would go away if we went vegan." Some of it has to do with me and my brother. We're close in age and obviously raised under the same circumstances, but he's 24 and falling apart, horrible diet, horrible health. I'm 22 and full of moxie without any medical problems. Everyone in my house other than me goes to the doctor at least twice a month. My brother twice a week.
So he started doing his own research on veganism and went to some free 7th day adventist clinic. That's cool. I'm pretty stoked about the prospect of a house loaded with vegan food and vegan meals cooked for me. They offer a 7 day vegan transistion course and at the end you leave your medicines behind with them. ehhh. Not cool. Diabetics should not give up their medicines not matter what diet they are on.
But yea. That was my weird experience for the week. Mom and step-dad considering going vegan.

I am DOMINATING your comments. Because I'm a weirdo. You said the magical words and then *poof* it happened. Or I already knew(ish) when you made that comment and I gave a knowing look through the computer... silently... but you didn't notice. x.
