Well I went to my brother's open mic at this old church in Amboy which is currently some sort of historical museum. It was interesting... lots of talent there. When I stop to think about how much talent was in that tiny building last night it's mind boggling to think of what is out there world wide. We are blessed to have these creative people in our lives and I need to be more involved and explore more of the local talent.
It does makes me feel like I'm wasting my own creativity on silly middle american lifestyle bullshit. Not that scrapbooking and knitting isn't an art in itself. It just reminds me that I miss writing. Giving up reading and writing (at least the way I used to do it) was one of the hardest things about being a working mother. With only a limited number of hours in a day I had to pick and the babies and household came first.
Now with life at a different point I'm realizing that it's time to invest in me again. Time to realize my passions and share them with my children so that they can begin to explore life and see what really interests them. I used to have season tickets to the children's symphony for them but I've been to poor to do that lately... so I need to be more creative and resourceful in finding cultural things to expose them to.
I think us PDX parents should get together and have monthly trips to the children's museum, the zoo, or other locations that offer free admission. Anyone interested?

Get back into writing. It's so neat that you take your kids to see all this different culture. I wish my parents would have done that for me. You are a kick ass mom. How's the job situation?
