I'm such a dork. I have had this goal of doing the rubik's cube in less than 2 minutes since last fall. I abandoned the project months ago because I couldn't go faster without breaking my nails.
We actually used one cube so much the stickers were peeling off and I bought another one. That one never really worked very well and while we tried to break it in it was always stiff and hard to maneuver. That led to more breakages.
By the new year we tired of it and Tom could do it in about 90 seconds while I was easily well over 2 minutes. Then the other day I went to look for the cubes and they were BOTH gone. Rats. I couldn't find EITHER of them anywhere!!!
So then I'm shopping for some educational toys for a couple of birthday parties and I come across a cube.
I bought it and shamefully brought it out and gave it to Tom (it's really embarassing to have purchased THREE rubik's cubes in six months). We've been back on the cube again lately and even took it out of town with us- these things are like crack. I'm at 2 minutes now but have a goal of 90 seconds... and this one is actually quite loose which is good for speedy puzzle solving.
But of course I just broke a nail and will now have to file them all down short to accomplish my goal. I don't even want to think of how dorky that sounds.
