I recently (within 3 1/2 weeks) adopted a dog named Cortez. I personally despise his name and the historical figure he was surely named after. The people who had him were white and I think they just chose it because he is half Chihuahua and half miniature pinscher and looks like the Taco Bell dog. But did they even know who Hernando Cortez was? If so... that's a bit disturbing.
So now I'm faced with renaming a 2 year old dog who responds to his name. Personally I find the reference offensive as Cortez wiped out the Aztec nation and did a lot of horrid things to the native people he "conquered" when he arrived in Central America.
I thought I could leave it but it's so irksome I think I need to just change it. Any suggestions???
