Alright.. long time coming.. so here we go!!
Vacation in Ocean City, NJ; Wildwood, NJ; & Atlantic City:
So, I went to Ocean City w/ my family this past July!
I road w/ my sister and her friend Katie. It was pretty fun in the sense of the different tastes in music between all of us. When we got to Ocean City we were staying in an old Immense Hotel from the 1930's. What was pretty cool to me was that they kept the decor in the entry area true to the 1930's, with old love seats and nick nacks.. Also old hollywood starlets apparently frequented the hotel. Now they'd been turned into high priced condo's.. and we were staying in one with a great view of the water and amusement park ajoining the pier.
Oh yeah.. I didn't mention the hotel was connected to the boardwalk... SUPER plus because no long walks to the beach.
So on one of the days' my lil' siblings, my mother and I, road bikes we rented around the whole of Ocean City.. pretty fun, and interesting to see all the housing and things available in the area.
For the family reunion aspect of the event we ate at a restaurant inside the hotel, w/ many of my mexican family attending. Most of the family reunions we have for my mom's side is obviously the relations of my grandmother, which consist of my family and my grandmother's 6 brother's and their families. The highlight really of the dinner was the karaoke that followed provided by my cousin. At the end of the event I made an attempt to recreate the dinner scene from beetlejuice by singing.. "Day-O" on the karaoke machine. Everyone enjoyed the singing.. though I think they didn't see the humor that I saw in singing it.
My sister and I made an attempt to go out that nite in Atlantic City w/ Katie. They really wanted to find some kind of club, and we made several tries on the Atlantic city boardwalk. Once at the SandBar (or whatever it's called), which I'm pretty sure is owned by Donald Trump. Eventually with the advice of a few Asian casino goers at the sandbar (hitting on my sister) we find our way to a club inside one of Trump's Casino's. Which personally.. I found really annoying. They wanted me to take my hat off, which I normally wouldn't have cared if I wasn't hiding beach hair from swimming, as well as the fact it being a bit of an absurd attempt by the club to show some class. Anyhow, upon entering the club, and paying the $20 dollar cover, we find it simply filled with the same people we saw at the other club (or any standard top 40 club in the burgh)... pretty weak. But we danced anyhow, and made the best of it. The highlight of the evening being coming back home and getting late nite food at a diner on the way back. Awesome. (plus a cute russian waitress!, always a plus.)
So, the best nite in the atlantic city, came when we went out with my cousin Roland. The four of us went to a crazy R&B club. Simply put, we were a couple of hispanic, mostly white looking kids in an all black hip hop club. Normally, you'd think we'd get looks. And of course we did, but my favorite part of this story, is that there was no one dancing when we got onto the dance floor, and we quickly took it over. At least 3 ladies tried to dance with me that nite, and I was asked, "where did you learn to dance like that?"... Awesome. Then later, we headed out and into the casino to play some blackjack.. Roland being the expert schooled us a bit, as well as fund our gambling experience. Lots of fun.. at one point I was up about $120 dollars.. then quickly in our "fun" spent it. Though Roland tells me, through out the nite we ended up breaking even or still just coming in a bit over. Yay.. addicting though. (of course)
The beach!!! Of course the kiddies schooled me on boogie boarding (if that's the correct spelling) and I had LOTS of fun with that!!! I can't believe I've just discovered this. They are a bit hipper than me. Though I had a lot of time skiing and tubing when I was younger, all my little bro's are surfers! (obviously cooler)
Then came the day we went to the water park and wildwood. Wow!!! If you've been to a water park, you get the idea. But the biggest water bucket at the highest point (over 3 stories) was at this one, and like a GIANT mouse trap game, dumps water on you from the top. Plus their was one of those 4 story water slides with the 5 person innertubes, that my bro's and sis nearly destroyed ourselves on.
On the boardwalk later, my grandma was on an adventure to find Hot sausage, which she insisted was available at wildwood. We looked.. and walked.. and asked everyone, apparently in years past it was heavily available, but has since lost it's appeal. We managed to have one gentlemen create a version of hot sausage for us using sweet sausage and doing whatever he needed to (jalapeno's) to make it blazing hot. So that was delicious.. and fun. Gram was happy too!
Eventually the trip came to a close with one myst filled evening walking the boardwalk in ocean city with the family, I took a walk out in the nite onto the beach (pretty spooky, like the movie BIG with tom hanks, when they are on the pier and no one is around)... then, I get back to the room, and we've decided (apparently without my vote) to drive home in the LATE LATE evening (like.. 2am).. So, my sis drives a while, then I drive. and We eventually got back to the burgh in the early hours of the morn.
WeeeeooooooOOOOO!
So that was the Ocean City trip!!
