ok, so there's a bloody good reason why i don't go to shows nearly as much as i used to and it is this: 99.9% of the kids there don't even motherfucking dance!
case in point: last night i went to see rilo kiley and the good life and mayday. these guys are playing their hearts out, singing at the top of their lungs, dancing around stage and what does the audience do but stand there and watch like a bunch of stiffs!
there are just some RK songs that you cannot resist dancing to, and i don't understand how anyone can keep still during these. i wish people would treat shows more like prom instead of constantly assuming the forward facing position, and instead treat the dance floor like what it is!
anyway, jenny lewis was pretty intoxicated (apparently she is a lot?). too silly! about half the omaha music scene was at the show, i swear, and after the show jenny was in the back of the room (how'd she get there so fast?). she is very small. these 3 cutie boys approached her (seems she knows them) to tell about a party after the show, and i almost said to them "hey am i invited too?" cause it was still only like 1am. I figure that at worst they'd think 'haha, silly drunk girls and their random remarks' but i have a feeling they would've said yes.
lots of cute indie rock boys. i like boys...they're so goofy and clumsy and clueless, but sometimes they can be really adorable too.
the cutie indie rock boys never talk to me though, but maybe its cause i dance?
yeah and another thing too: why do i always feel like everyone is looking at me when i walk into a bar (to see a band play?). thats another thing that keeps me in sometimes. i think maybe i'm just paranoid, but it seems as though the red sea parts when they see me coming...perhaps its that constant expression of disdain i seem to have permanently glued to my face. i guess it intimidates people, even though i am rather diminutive.
anyway, the show was rad. i like tim kasher's other band the good life much more than Cursive. I also highly recommend mayday who i'd never heard anything from them until last night.
and btw, if you listen to indie rock and dance at shows please for the love of god move to chicago and be my frard!
