Tis the season.
For most of us; the joy of the holidays is in the love shared between family and friends. As I’ve grown older my Holiday “wish” list grows shorter, the things I desire can’t be bought. I find that I have moved on from wanting material objects, as an adult I mostly provide for myself. My wish is to make good memories, to find connection amongst the chaos.
Growing up we didn’t really have traditions, but we are Italian and I remember the meal prep more than the holidays. My mother is the youngest of 9 siblings, 6 sisters … and they would all get together pre Christmas to make the triple batchesg of cookies, pies and the homemade pastas. Did you know we never had a “Christmas” ham 🤷🏻♀️? I remember listening to them bickering like siblings, I remember the flour fights between my aunts, I remember watching ALL the vhs Disney movies in the finished basement with my cousins. I remember playing Yahtzee for HOURS at the table while everything baked. I remember only being able to watch the Christmas movies on TV, checking the guide for when Frosty would air, and then Rudolph and of course the Grinch 💕💕
Those days have long passed but they live strong in my heart. I’ve found new holiday activities, movie traditions, and incorporated my loved ones traditions. My very best friend of 20 years ALWAYS watches “it’s a wonderful life” … I’d never seen it when we met … now it’s a part of our Christmas story too.
Would you share with me your favorite Christmas memory?
