Beauty - in the Eye of the Beholder?
Bwaha - I'm Beholder, you see my beauty-eye? Hahaha
Today, for the reason given in the end, I decided to have some thoughts about beauty. What is beauty? Is it a complex, n-dimensional mathematical function, is it "purely subjective" - or what?
I don't think so. I usually reject any "middle way" solution. The world is much more black and white as most grey-painters want to believe. ... But not in that case.
To my observation, beauty clearly consists of 3 levels:
-Subjective attraction
-Cultural beauty
-Objective beauty
Subjective: Everybody has personal tastes based primary on 1) parents (as Freudian as it sounds true. I think Freud was just a perv, btw), 2) self-image and 3) past loves (hopefully this is more important than 1).
If subjective attraction totally opposes the other 2 aspects of beauty, you get a very strange person.
Cultural aspects: "RUBENS PAINTED FAT WOMEN AND EVERYBODY LOVED THEM" is often cried as an argument by ugly people, why they are in fact beautyful despite the fact that nobody notices (how delusional). Thesis is, that the culture you live in dictates your definition of beauty. This is to simplistic but it has a true core. I mean, if this was true wouldn't al models look exactly the same? ... But, many models look somewhat similar. Usually Cultural beauty respects objective aspects, though their are exceptions (just google "Padaung tribe women" - that are those with the really long necks)
Objective beauty: We had the "One person by itself" aspect and the "group of people" aspects, now these are the Species-wide parameters defining beauty. They are inherent to all people (though they can't be "trained" away by traumas, brainwashing or similar. Don't try that at home.) and useful to get along among other humans. It's a primitive perception, whether the possible partner is healthy/strong and has good genes.
Now, where is Suicide Girls in this?
Suicide Girls is trying to "redefine beauty" - and doing a good job with it. There are attacking the predominant "cultural beauty". To a good part the importants of this aspect can be seen as moved towards the personal aspects. Up to a point. Human is a herd animal, beauty will allways have group-aspects (the side has "groups" as a feature!). However SG offers the unconventional taste a new and great "culture" to belong to in woman-taste.
And... "I love it".
On an only really slightly related note:
I just decided to do something for my personal good-looking, too. I'm definitly not vain but I though, that by now I have been fat long enough and so I will go on an epic, manly diet. This will show every woman, what man are really capeable of ... damn, why am I writing this here? Am I in delirium allready?
Anyway, I was like "diet tomorrow" for quite a while now and yesturday I said: "Diet now". Today I'm posting here to make sure I don't back out.
Plan: It will consist of a power-attack week on and a continous-care month.
Minimum goal for the first week is an average of 1 pount the day but I'm more aiming for 1 to 1.5 Kilogramm per day. A strikt "Eat 1/10th" philosopy combined with more sport (to lose fat instead of muscles) will probably manage this. The month afterwards will then consist of slowly beginning to eat normal again with further monitoring of the weigth, primary to make sure it does not all boomerang back.
Btw, before anyone thinks 1 Kilogramm each day is impossible: It's possible, as long as you start at about 104 (228 lbs.).
Edit after a week: So, I got to 5 Kilogramm (~11 lbs) in 7 days. I had done better before but it is still satisfactory. Fitness also went up a bit due to the daily "miimum sport" - now into the less drastic step.

h. Ja.
