Ooh, so much been going on, I'll keep it short and sweet
Croatia was wicked, full of all sorts of debauchery, topless pole dancing, luxury yachts, swimming in clear blue lakes and gorgeous blue seas and lots and lots of getting stupidly pissed with very nice people. So so beautiful.
Week after I got back was the now infamous Old Trafford riots - those peaky Glazers came down to our ground and we let them know we are slightly unhappy. Nothing like a good riot to get the blood pumping. Got my ugly mug all over the news, including Sky, BBC, and Reuters where you can see my favourite New Balance trainers glowing through the darkness as I get dragged off at the beginning, and then getting pushed flying by another copper after hammering on a riot van then storming off in a cloud of bad vleached hair at the end. Much to the diappointment of my parents who didnt take to well to seeing their little daughter rioting on the telly when they were having their tea. Also got interviewed on Granada Reports, missed it myself, damn.
2 days later I went to Scotland for the G8 protests. Unfortunately due to MASSIVE debts I only managed to make the weekend before the summit, but it was great - did a pro-capitalist march at the make Poverty History march, shouting at the hippies and cheering at McDonalds, got ridiculously pissed, buzzed at the goings on at the Forest cafe in Edinburgh, went to the Make Borders History pro-refugee/asylum seeker march in Glasgow on Sunday and then went to a party on some piece of land that is being squatted to proteset against the M74 motorway extension. Bloody great weekend, just wished I could have stayed longer.
We stayed at the convergence space in Stirling, which was this massive campsite run completely cooperatively, a great example of anarchism in action. It was fantastic, and made me dream of what life will be like after the revolution when we all live together comunally like that, in our own little autonomous but interlinked communities. Oh heaven.
Tueday afetr I got back I went and recorded a single with a band called Hanky park, from Salford, and - oh my god - PETER HOOK!
It was a pro-United, anti-Glazer song thats going to be released soon which, in all truth, isnt that good, but I got to meet Peter Hook, so i thought fuck it, ill do it anyway. It was weird, got up in the morning and put Joy Division on, and after hearing th Transmission bassline rumble in, thought "Shit, I'm going to be meeting that bassplayer in a minute!" I buzzed the whole time, and for the second time that week got on Granada Reports and missed it! Whats the point in being a media whore then missing your appearances?
Started a new job as a cleaner on a building site on Wednesday but ive been sort of sacked already.
Start my new job at Dimitris on Thursday and very excited, its a great little mediterranean restaurant and bar in manchester with a really nice atmosphere (and a VERY fit boss!) and I really hope I do well there.
Finally sorted out the layout for the first edition of my new fanzine. It's called Future Rage and is going to be full of all the good stuff that goes on in manchester, clubs, gigs, new music, art, football and other crap that I've chucked in, and its going to be brilliant, and most importantly, totally punk and anti-corporate. First edition will feature reviews of the City Is Ours mixtape, DPercussion festival, the Punk exhibition at Urbis, a preview for the Alternative Pride event I'm helping with, a manifesto to explain what we're about and details of how its going to be completely advert free, articles for inclusion to be decided by the collective not an egomaniac editor, and all sorts of other radical shit. Its going to be great.
Gotta go now, very busy. Trying to get a temp office job so I can abuse the photocopier and get the first print run of Future Rage done for free.
If anyone wants a copy when it's done, let me know and I'll post you one. Its all free, so dont be shy.
