Taken from an email i sent coz i cant vbe arsed re writing this shit here....
I went home for christmas and ate loads of rubbish and went out and got pissed every day, well what else is there to do in Wales?! I had a lovely family christmas and met up with loads of old mates who I had a wicked time with.
I was straight back to Manchester on boxing day but didnt hang around as I was off to New York! What an amazing place - I was there for six days, not long enought at all, and I definitely think I'm going to be back very soon, and maybe in the future a year long stint may be on the cards...
As well as all the usual touristy stuff I went to Harlem, which was amazing but scary and exactly like something out of a Spike Lee film, where I saw the graffitti hall of fame, which was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life, basketball courts in the middle of new york covered in wildstyle lettering and pictures of dead rappers, cool as fuck. I went to a lush soul food restaurant with Public Enemy and Slick Rick gold discs on the wall, went in a black power/ Nation of Islam shop full of really dodgy shit, including books called "The International Jew - The Worlds Foremost Problem", so I quickly left and then when walking down the road some guy screamed "Fucking parasites!" at me and my mates, which was slightly scary.
I went to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and marvelled at the amount of street art there, went to the Museum of Modern Art and marvelled at some amazing stuff by Duchamp, Max Ernst, Picasso, Miro, Dali, Warhol and all the usual suspects. I swanned round the Lower East Side and Greenwich Village thinking I was well cool, and saw Luke Jenner from the Rapture in Soho! The best night was on New Years Day when I went to see Danny Krivit, got absolutely wasted and then went on to another club to see Timmy Regisford, both clubs were amazing! I've never seen such a diverse crowd at a club; latino B-boys, black girls in massive african headdresses, dangly earringed ghetto queens, cool flat capped lesbians, skinny anoraked japanese kids, radical gay guys, amazingly beautiful transvestites, all sorts of people, it was amazing. You'd be stood at the bar and some guy would be breakdancing and spinning on his head next to you. I went for a fag on the rooftop garden of one of the clubs and looked up at the skyscrapers and the people around me and the fantastic music and just thought "I never want to leave!"
But of course I had to, especially because I had to go home for my 21st birthday party! The day after I got home I became a big girl and went back to Newport to celebrate. My party was brilliant, about 80 people came down to the Coronation Working Mens Club, plied me with free drink and gave me lots of money. We ate cheese and pineapple on sticks and danced to the Hokey Cokey and Music Man before heading on to OTT and taking over the dancefloor and throwing down some moves to some old house classics. Brilliant night!
Now I'm back in Manchester and the post christmas/pr exam depression is upon me. Oh well. But in a few weeks i'm going to Berlin, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
