I go back and forth a lot over what I think about violence. One thing I'm certain of is that violence sucks, but as an anarchist-utilitarian-opportunist-Jewish-Taoist I believe that it has to be considered as an option.
I think it's wrong to hurt innocent bystanders, but defining "innocent" can be tricky. If someone I knew got blown up tomorrow by terrorists I'd have to say that they weren't innocent of the crimes America's accused of by people around the world and here as well. America is merely a concept, a concept almost every one of us contributes to no matter how hard we try. We've been sucked in by the black hole vortex of the USA and we're (un)wittingly drawing others in, too. That makes a lot of people mad and makes them want to kill us. I think we can change that concept.
Our arrogance and ignorance combine to form a magnet for hatred and disdain. Think about it...what if you knew someone who behaved like our country does? I picture some ultrabuff white actor-looking guy in blue jeans and a white t-shirt throwing money around and throwing punches in people's faces and throwing trash on the steet. Then I imagine an imperial-looking Chinese dude and a proud bearded Russian shaking their heads and whispering to each other. We're that guy who thinks he's cool but really isn't.
We're going to get our asses kicked sooner or later. And we're all guilty of our country's crimes. Like it or not, it's almost impossible to live here and not contribute to the bullshit.
But we can do our best. We can try to live right and be at peace with ourselves. As the New Babylon, we're assuredly in Allah's sights. I don't purport to completely understand Allah (which I think is impossible anyway) but I do know He has a Will and that America's lining itself up for a smackdown.
The destruction of the Twin Towers and the deaths of thousands of people isn't going to be the worst of it. That seriously scares the crap out of me but I figure that's what I get for being an American...a Jewish-American at that! Great. I'm doubly guilty for things I didn't do, things I totally disagree with.
Oh well...how interesting would life be if there were no guilt? I'd be bored and do something to feel guilty for just to break up the monotony.
Peace,
msi.
