People keep asking me about my tattoos so I decided to finally just post a blog about them! I'll try to explain as clearly as I possibly can and include cover ups I've had done as well.
I'll start with my arms:
My two triangles get questioned more often than any of my other tattoos. People assume it as to do with alchemy or geometry, etc. But the truth is that the four tattoos on my arm go together, the triangles represent strength. Triangles are the strongest shapes. That's why the pyramids are build from triangles. I also spend my first semester of art school here in San Francisco studying ancient geometry in art and its significance. Triangles also have three sides and trilogies are important in my life: things tend to come in threes to me.
My lotus flower was my first tattoo I got in San Francisco. I got it when I was still seventeen after a year of being sober from drugs I wouldn't like to mention. The lotus represents rebirth, which I was and am still trying to accomplish. It is also very symbolic in buddhist culture, and my mother is a practicing buddhist.
My yin yang is parallel to the lotus on my other arm. It represents balance and I got it about six months after that lotus. Together, my four arm pieces represent strength, rebirth, and balance. What I want my life to revolve around. It also goes along with my rib cage piece.
My rib cage piece is the lyrics from Bon Iver's Skinny Love. "Patient, fine, balanced, kind" because, again, they are values I want to remember and act.
My knuckle pieces are a heart and a roman numeral three. The heart I got to remember that promises don't matter unless they're to yourself. It is not selfish to put yourself first. I got it after getting out of an abusive relationship. The roman numeral three is because, like I stated earlier, trinities are significant in my life.
The 'x' on my wrist is a small tattoo I got almost two years ago the last day I did the drugs I decided to quit as a symbol to myself I wanted/needed to quit. And I did quit.
My shin piece is a daisy my mom bought be as a cover up because my friend tattooed the word "gnarly" on me when we were both kind of drunk. We were being stupid and I was skating around and I told her she could tattoo any word on me she wanted and so she chose that one. Of course, when I sobered up, I regretted it.
I have an eye and a crescent moon on different sides of my ankles. The eye is matching with my friend back home and the crescent moon is matching with a group of friends.
I have a sagittarius sign and a saturn on the sides of my other ankle, which I let my ex boyfriend tattoo on me. Their significance is that he tattooed them.
I have a small 'om' on my right foot. It was my first tattoo and was done by my friend. It is because my mother is a practicing buddhist and I enjoy the connotations that come along with 'om'.
