Despite the fact that our ancestors were adventurers and pioneers, American society is not set up to facilitate travelling. I guess our ancestors were also settlers.

I think that the US has a major problem with mass transit. It's fairly easy to drive around the US, but take a train? A bus? A plane? HUGE, expensive pain in the ass.
