I wrote the following as my response paper for my theory class last night. I never post my actual writing in my journal, but I thought I'd do it this once.
It loses some form here - some things are centered and whatnot in the original, but I suppose that's okay. I also lost all my footnotes in here - so you're just going to have to trust that I'm not plagarizing anything.

To intimidate or coerce a civilian population, which civilian? (Gilmore 1993:27)
Which civilians count in an act of terrorism? And furthermore, what exactly is terrorism? Gilmore gives the definition of terrorism according to official US code on page 27 and Im still not sure what terrorism is, exactly. How many civilians need to be intimidated before they are considered a population? And how is intimidation defined? And does this mean a civilian population just has to be intimidated OR coerced? Or do they have to be BOTH intimidated AND coerced? Apparently it also has to entail a violent act or an act dangerous to human life.
Violent acts. Dangerous to human life. Intimidation. Coercion.
CIVILIAN POPULATION.
Which civilians count in an act of terrorism??
Play according to the drama of the moment (Gilmore 1993:28)
The drama of the moment. Like a video game. Playing according to the drama of the moment. With that video game controller, joystick on the left, four buttons on the right, gripping the plastic with sweaty palms, index finger on the trigger, eyeing that red button, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping which button performs what function? Dance dance revolution. Rushing to keep up, feet bouncing in patterns off the floor, hit the mark, dont miss a step, mimicking and (re)producing the animated bodies on the television screen
See it and say it in American (Gilmore 1993:31)
Which civilians count in an act of terrorism?
Dance dance revolution.
A kind of mass mediated coverage of events. To whom is the coverage intended to reach? What voices are silenced by the coverage? SEE IT AND SAY IT IN AMERICAN. The voices silenced because of accents, phrases, words, and images that are deemed un-American (an INTERRUPTION) I suddenly realize my computer wont uncapitalize American. I cant even type without giving some sort of authority to the word, to the idea, to the construction of what is considered American patriotic. Microsoft.
a function of the Im proud to be an American rah-rah (Gilmore 1993:30
teacher caught on tape pulling chair from under a student refusing to stand for national anthem
Compulsory patriotism. The unpatriotic are they terrorists? Are terrorists also part of the civilian population? I still dont know what terrorism is, exactly. Im still not completely sure what an act of terrorism entails.
Which civilians count in an act of terrorism?
I believe it is too late to fight nationalism with nationalism; that bloodily disintegrating process must result in planetary death. I also believe it is not too late to act (Gilmore 1993:34-5)
Dance dance revolution.
