It's been a very long time since I've posted anything here. I figured I should this time because it concerns this site in some ways.
Someone broke into our home and stole my older computer. I had this new one with me or else it would have probably been taken as well. But anyway, some of the things on my old computer include a video project I did with my best friend at the time and my girlfriend. I may never be able to get that back, and as my friend has moved to the other side of the country and caused a lot of damage to our friendship, that piece of us might now only exist in our memories.
Also on that computer was almost all of the SG sets that I had saved over the years. As in, everything I talked about in my last blog, that I was so fond of, before the site lost a lot of its flavor. The first two Setsuka sets, all of the early Cadavre sets, that Starphire set from '09, and basically anything that was only in Member Review and taken down by the models.
This is actually pretty hurtful, because it's like losing some of your favorite music albums, only with NO WAY TO EVER get some of them back. The only pics I have from some of these now are the ones I posted in my 2010 blog. I will see what I can get back, but I don't exactly expect the models in question to just send me the albums that they took off the site. The ones that are still up here would take a long time to get back, and honestly I won't remember them all, but I'm not so worried about that. There was one set posted by a model who left the site some time ago, and it was absolutely amazing. But I don't even remember what her name was, just that she began it with an underscore.
It's like timeless works of art have been destroyed, and I'm just not okay with that. One of the artworks was mine and my girlfriend's. This is slightly less than awesome.
A lot of my music albums that will be very hard to replace were on there as well. I just didn't have the time to transfer everything over since it was running very slowly, and I mean, you expect hard drives might crash, but you don't expect someone to come in and take it. i had intended to bring the rest of my files over here, but being busy kind of got in the way there.
I did have an idea, as something of a longshot, at least for the Setsuka and Cadavre sets, to talk to the models and see what they said about it. Back when I was more active here I considered them something of friends, so maybe there's a chance. But I still have that old, really, really bad picture on the page, and I had always meant to change that before trying to get active on here again.
So I go to put a new profile picture on the site, and that's when I realize that all my pictures, that I had spent all that time scanning in and labeling everything that I could find, that basically showed my life story from a baby until only a couple years ago, are also gone. Greeeat. At least I could still rescan them, but man, what a disappointment.
Honestly, I've only stayed active on this site to catch what my favorite SGs and hopefuls were doing. I didn't have time to be very active like I was, and the site just isn't the same as it used to be. If those old classic sets are really just gone forever now ... I don't know. It really is lost art, and it really is a tragedy when that happens. I'm thinking about if it's worth someone as poor as I am paying for a site where some timeless thing of beauty in a photoset can be put up, and can truly inspire, and then can just be gone for good. Is it better to just not know what is missing? Maybe, in a case like this. I spent years trying to re-find a song from 2000 that I had thought was truly great. But at least it ended up being retrievable. My personal pictures will be as well. The video project? Probably not, ever. The art from this site? Probably some of both. But anyway, it matters when something like this is taken away from the appreciative souls of the world, and I just wanted to vent about that.
Anyway, there are my thoughts on that.
