Just read this from Neil Gaiman's blog after a signing event for Fragile Things

"Signed a little over 500 copies of FRAGILE THINGS, two boxes of ANANSI BOYS paperbacks and sundry other things (books, comics, a pair of breasts [female] and a bottletop [initials only])."

I now realized that it may be possible for writers to have groupies, and this is what I aspire to.

ARRR!!!

In a week I'm moving from my tiny studio(it's like a closet with a sink) in beautiful Brookline, to a larger, cheaper apartment in Brighton. I'm certain it's about time, because a mouse has decided to move in my apartment a week and a half before my lease ends(it's not paying rent, and it certainly isn't on my lease). I must be getting lonely too,...

Right now, I'm experiencing a future I've never had.

I think beautiful strangers have super powers. Besides extraordinary charisma(don't stare directly into their eyes, that's how they enchant you) and complete indifference to me(which translates to cool nonchalance), they can disappear, leaving only a vivid, dream-like memory. On a recent trip to a convenience store, I noticed one such girl reading a magazine when I walked in. I picked up a pint of peanut...

you could put up a missed connections on craigslist!! except those are kind of creepy. harumph.

that krusty-o's thing totally made my day! only it turns out it's not the FEV but instead simply a gnarly case of strep.
perdita:
well she might just be reading the missed connections cause they're funny. it's like reading the erotic personals from the phoenix out loud.

and as far as the set thing goes, despite the fact that i am sick about once a month (more or less) there's never, ever been any bed sets at all on this site. totally original idea there. wink

and thanks for the well wishes, i'm already feeling better.

I picked up the Wormwood comic. I quite enjoyed it. Very funny, and Templesmith has, once again, done some beautiful artwork.

I saw Mouth Sewn Shut and Gang Green. My voice is hoarse...work tomorrow will be hell. I'm gonna write something or pass out now.

Screwdrivers are my default drink. So, so good.

That's what I love about Mieville, he's so damn smart!

Neil always makes me happy. As far as I'm concerned he can do no wrong. ^_^
perdita:
yeah. well, he actually wrote an introduction to the book and he's definitely way cool with critical stuff, because he realizes once something is written it no longer belongs to the author alone, and if anything it belongs to the author less.

i love mieville but especially his short stories didn't quite work for me. sometimes you just want a happy ending and he seems firmly against a happy ending. oh well.

Listening to World Inferno/Friendship Society, and I've come to the conclusion (after a bottle of wine, of course) that more than anything, I'd like a girl to waltz with. sigh.

Also, I bought Little Nemo 1905-1915 today, AMAZING! I wish I could live in slumberland.

Yeah Perdido Street Station was the first book I read, on a whim, and I ended up writing a paper on it

King Rat is definitely my all time favorite, there's definitely a familiarity and love that went into that book that isn't present with the New Crobuzon books. Like, the love is there, but there's a certain amount of "benevolent creator" distance as well.

He has a new book coming out? Oh shit! I didn't know that!!!

You definitely just made my night. ^_^

I'm trying to feel better soon. I'm on some good (if annoying) antibiotics, andI'm trying to take it easy, so we'll see if it works.

Something about Elliott Smith always makes me feel a little depressed. The way he sings, his lyrics, the chords he plays, or even just the undercurrent of his death in all his songs affects me when I listen to him. I think that's the mark of a great musician, that he can make you feel a certain way when you listen to his songs, no...
